Susan Beard and Leah MacDonald are two photographers whose creativity and introspection take them beyond the mere photograph.
While in Barcelona Susan photographed the walls of back streets that were covered in myriad, attached papers. Some old and weathered and others newly affixed, together these adhesions made no literal sense but collectively added color, texture and decay to the ersatz canvas. Compelled to document this "conversation" of hundreds of people she added her voice to the conversation by applying beeswax and oil to these images in her studio making them her own..
Leah MacDonald uses her artwork and teaching to express her passion for photography and her encaustics to explore the themes of womankind. Her interest in texture, depth and layers inspires her work. Her self expression and layers help her to guide the viewers eye and focus on the important parts of the her images.
