This event occurs in the past Amanda Feifer, fermenting enthusiast behind phickle.com comes to the Greensgrow Community Kitchen to teach the basic principles of fermentation. Come ready to chop, pack, taste and learn in this two-hour workshop. You’ll get hands-on making sauerkraut and kombucha while covering some of the principles of fermentation such as the relationship between microbes and our food, the essential elements of a good ferment, and tips and tricks. Learn about the advantages and disadvantages of fermentation versus other preserving methods, discuss health benefits, taste finished ferments and have fun while learning about the benefits of bacteria. Everyone will get some kraut, kombucha and recipes to take home with fermentation tips to guide fermentation on your own. This is a great time of the year to get your skills in order before the season get going! Get to meet Amanda before her book, Ferment Your Vegetables, comes out this fall.
